Pimento Cheese Scallion Biscuits

Pimento Cheese Scallion Biscuits

Biscuits... But Make Them Plant-Based

There’s something sacred about a warm biscuit in the South. Whether it’s part of a big family breakfast, smothered in gravy, or slathered in butter with a side of sweet tea, biscuits are the golden, flaky heart of comfort food.

But we’re not just talking about any biscuits. We’re talking about cheddar scallion biscuits: a savory, cheesy variation that’s earned its place on brunch menus, potluck tables, and Southern kitchen counters for decades. So, naturally, we gave it the Darë twist: fully plant-based, loaded with smoky pimento goodness, and ready to impress even the biscuit purists (but so quick and easy to make!)

A Little Biscuit Backstory

Biscuits have been a Southern staple since the 1800s, when flour became more widely available in the U.S. Unlike yeast-leavened breads, biscuits use baking powder for a quick rise - making them a fast, affordable, and filling addition to any meal. Over the years, folks started adding all kinds of mix-ins to dress them up: shredded cheddar, fresh scallions, herbs etc.

Our version ditches the dairy and embraces the flavor with Vegan Smoked Pimento, our creamy, melty, smoky cashew cheese spread that’s basically begging to be baked into a biscuit.

Cheddar scallion biscuits are traditionally served with eggs, soups, stews, or simply with a pat of butter. Ours are dreamy with a swipe of vegan butter, dipped in chili, or stacked with tofu scramble for a delicious plant-based breakfast sandwich.

What You’ll Need:

A few simple ingredients come together for this totally dairy-free, flavor-packed biscuit:

🧀 Vegan Smoked Pimento Cheese: Our velvety, smoky cheese brings depth and boldness without the dairy. It melts like a dream and makes these biscuits irresistibly rich.

🌱 Scallions: These mild green onions add brightness and a subtle crunch that balances out the cheesy richness.

🥛 Apple Cider Vinegar + Almond Milk: Together, they form a quick vegan buttermilk. This keeps the biscuits soft and fluffy, and the ACV supports gut health with its natural probiotics.

🍞 All-Purpose Flour: A pantry staple that gives these biscuits their light, tender crumb. You can switch this out for a gluten-free flour too!

RECIPE

Serves: 12 biscuits
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients:

1 cup unsweetened almond milk

1 TBSP apple cider vinegar

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 TBSP baking powder

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1/2 tsp Himalayan sea salt

1 tub Darë Smoked Pimento cheese, melted

⅓ cup sliced scallions (green and light green parts only)

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, make your vegan buttermilk by combining almond milk and apple cider vinegar. Let it sit for a few minutes to curdle.

Melt the Smoked Pimento in a small saucepan over medium-low heat, stirring frequently until smooth.

To the buttermilk bowl, add flour, baking powder, garlic powder, sea salt, and melted cheese. Mix gently with a spatula until a thick, sticky dough forms. Don’t over-mix.

Fold in the scallions.

Using a ¼ cup measuring cup, scoop out dough balls and place them on the baking sheet with some space between each.

Bake for 13–15 minutes, or until golden brown underneath.

Serve warm, and try not to eat all 12 in one sitting (we won’t judge if you do).

These biscuits are the perfect addition to brunch, lunch, or a casual snack that feels like a hug. Grab your tub of Darë Smoked Pimento and your taste buds will thank you.
